자개테이블(Mother-of-pearl tables) 전시는 한국의 통영 자개 장인과 6명의 세계적인 디자이너들이 각자의 해석으로 자개라는 전통의 재료를 탐구해 전통의 자개와 세계의 디자이너가 만나 전통적인 재료인 자개가 동시대에 맞는 디자인 제품으로 재탄생 되었습니다. 2023년 밀라노 디자인 위크(MDW) 중 밀라노 트리엔날레 디자인 미술관에서 동양과 서양의 문화적 가교 역할을 하는 특별한 자개 테이블 전시를 선보였습니다.

Cherry Tree 테이블은 동양의 전통 상징인 벚나무에서 영감을 받았습니다. 테이블의 베이스는  우아한 식물의 줄기와 같으며, 위로 올라갈수록 벚나무의 무성한 잎사귀를 표현합니다.


The Mother-of-pearl tables exhibition was established through the gallery’s collaboration with six internationally acclaimed designers and Korea's mother-of-pearl artisan from Tongyeong whom explored the traditional material of mother-of-pearl to create a contemporary design through their own interpretations. It was revived as a design object(product) to showcase at the 2023 Milan Design Week (MDW) and presented a exceptional mother-of-pearl table exhibition at the Triennale Milano, serving as a cultural bridge between East and West.

The cherry tree, a traditional symbol of the East, inspired the form and decoration of the coffee table that bears its name, a unique creation with extremely sinuous forms in ash wood. The base, like the trunk of a slender plant, tapers towards the top and then opens at its highest point, seamlessly shifting into the table’s surface.
